Birds. Did you see them?

Regular readers to the blog will know that I regularly take the dog for the early morning walk. Today I had a big shock. I am sure I saw at least 6 chickens (yes, chickens) flying!! Well I am no ornithologist but do take a great deal of interest in wildlife, but chickens flying. They don't fly, do they? I know they can do short sorts of hop flights but these were almost in formation at about 30 feet off the ground. Can anyone help me please. dDid you see them? I have heard via the radio (Radio Berkshire) last week that hens are being rescued from battery farming and taking up new residents with their new owners as free range. Perhaps it was these with their new found freedom!!
